A Voi e-scooter guide to parking

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: safety is always our top priority. E-scooters solve a lot of problems as a sustainable, carbon neutral, affordable, efficient mode of transportation. Improper parking, however, can create a lot of problems, such as blocking pedestrian and cycle paths, which leads to safety concerns and unnecessary street clutter.

E-scooters offer a lot of freedom. Because e-scooters are dockless users can potentially leave them anywhere when they have finished riding. This is convenient for users, but the e-scooters can become a nuisance if parked irresponsibly. The good news is that these issues can be avoided.

Think before you park

Before you end your ride, ask yourself:

• Am I blocking a pedestrian walkway, cycle lane, crosswalk, driveway or building entrance?

• Am I parking on private property?

• Is this location inaccessible to others who may want to use the scooter?

All of these are big no-nos. While some people may think it’s funny to park scooters in inaccessible locations or toss them in waterways, riders may face fines, bans, and other forms of prosecution for vandalism and bad parking behaviour.

Instead, park on a section of pavement or other designated parking area that is unobtrusive to pedestrians (especially vulnerable road users, such as those with visual or mobility impairments).

Follow the Voi app’s advice

The roads and pavements are for everyone. That’s why we have special zones and spots for riding and parking. We create these zones and spots together with cities to adapt to local needs. The Voi app is your best resource to find out where and where not to park. You are able to park in most areas of Voi’s operational area, but  you can learn more about specific zones and spots below:

Slow Speed Zones

The orange areas on the Voi map are Slow Speed Zones. These are mapped out in certain areas where you shouldn’t ride as fast, and where your Voi e-scooter will automatically run slightly slower. Whether you’re inside a Slow Speed Zone or not, you should always be aware of your surroundings, pedestrians and other road users.

Incentivised Parking Zones

Green areas marked with a P are prime parking spots. If you park here, you’ll get a credit to use toward your next ride.

Mandatory Parking Zones

In some cities, you are only allowed to park in conveniently located, designated parking spots (indicated in blue). We call these Mandatory Parking Zones. Plan your journey before you ride to find the best spot at the end.

 

No Park Zones

It’s not appropriate or permitted to end your ride in certain places. That’s why we have No Park Zones, where you can’t leave a Voi. You will be unable to end your ride in No Park Zones, which are red in colour.

No Ride Zones 

The grey areas are No Ride Zones. You must not ride or park a scooter in these areas.

Outside the Voi Zone

It is against the rules to ride a Voi outside the Voi Zone. A thick red line delineates the end of the Voi Zone from the surrounding area. Your scooter will come to a complete stop, and you won’t be able to end your ride. Move it to a place where you’re allowed to park. If you do not move the scooter, you will be charged a flat fee for misuse after one hour of the scooter idling (in the UK, the fee is £25).
