Voi offers free rides to critical workers and updates safety measures for COVID-19 restrictions

Nov 6, 2020

As much of Europe introduces new restrictions and lockdown measures to curb the spread of coronavirus, we want to do our part to make sure people stay safe and healthy.

Although we continue to monitor the situation and work closely with our partner cities to assess our operations, right now our services will continue to operate as normal, so our riders carry out essential trips or get to work in a socially distanced way while helping to ease the effects of reduced public transit capacity.

When using Voi, please always follow your local government travel and hygiene recommendations and the World Health Organization advice.

Free rides for medical and emergency service workers

Not all heroes wear capes, and we want to make it easier for key workers to travel in a socially distanced manner. Our Voi 4 Heroes discount now offers hospital, medical, and emergency service workers free rides throughout the lockdown period in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and restrictions in the Nordic countries.

To apply for a Voi 4 Heroes pass, you must hold valid identification (for example, in the U.K., this would include NHS ID, Blue Light card or Defence Discount Service). Your proof must be clear and legible, and include the full face of the document. Upon receipt of proof, we will send a confirmation email allowing the rider to claim free rides in the Voi app.

We are also reaching out to our communities’ hospitals during this time to determine how we can best support staff. We want to thank all medical workers and emergency responders for their hard work and sacrifices.

In addition, we offer a variety of discounted passes and subscriptions (such as Voi Pass), as well as a loyalty programme, to make Voi more affordable for those who use our services frequently.

Keeping our fleet clean

All Voi e-scooters undergo daily cleanings, including whenever they are brought to our warehouses for maintenance. In some regions, we’re also engaging street patrols for on-the-spot cleanings. We take special care to disinfect handlebars, where people make the most physical contact with the scooter. In the UK, all scooter handlebars are equipped with anti-viral copper tape, which inactivates the coronavirus; we’ll be rolling out this tape in other regions, too.

Information to keep our riders and communities safe

We recommend all Voi user follow advice and regulations outlined by their local authorities and the World Health Organization.

We communicate regularly with our riders about how to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic via in-app messaging.

We also recommend the following guidelines to protect yourself and others:

  • Stay home if you are able and only travel for essential journeys.

  • If it makes you feel more comfortable, wear a mask or gloves while riding Voi.

  • Wash your hands regularly and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

  • Avoid touching your face and eyes.

  • Always sneeze into a tissue or the crook of your elbow.

  • When you can, keep to 2-metre social distancing.

  • If you are experiencing coronavirus symptoms, self-isolate for 14 days and notify your local government health authority.

  • Keep in contact with friends and family via social media, phone calls, and video chats. Mental health is important — stay in touch with your loved ones and do safe activities that lift your spirits!

We’re all in this together — ride safely and stay healthy!
