Voi launches national safety campaign “Roll Without Risk” with German Road Safety Council

Oct 16, 2020

Did you know that e-scooter riders have the same legal promille limit as car drivers in Germany? If not, keep on reading!

This week we kicked off Germany’s first government supported e-scooter safety campaign supported by the Federal Ministry of Traffic and organized by the German Road Safety Council (DVR) together with several e-scooter operators. Through this educational campaign, called “Roll Without Risk”, we aim to improve knowledge of traffic rules that apply to e-scooter use, as well as increasing safety for e-scooter riders and other road users.

Increasing the knowledge of rules among e-scooter riders is essential to improve road safety. Only those who know the rules and abide by them can avoid accidents for themselves and others” said Prof. Dr. Walter Eichendorf, President of the DVR.

How does the campaign work?

From now on, all Voi e-scooters across Germany are decorated with stickers and hangers showcasing the most important rules for e-scooter riders. The information has intentionally been placed in the direct field of vision of the rider, and available in both German and English to make sure international tourists are aware of German traffic rules too.

Voi has a strict zero-tolerance on riding e-scooters under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We’ve recently launched the industry’s first pre-ride reaction time test which activates on weekend nights and tests users’ reflexes. In our commitment to safety we’ve also pledged to take corrective measures against unsafe riders and collaborate with local authorities if needed. As part of the “Roll Without Risk” campaign, bars and pubs across the country will be displaying road safety messages on coasters and Edgar cards, including risks of riding more than one person per vehicle or riding under the influence. These promotional tools are also available in both German and English.

The DVR also provides educational material online and plans to promote the campaign through online banners on a large number of websites during the fall of 2020.
