Voi e-bikes arrive in London
Apr 29, 2025
Hey, London! Voi e-bikes have arrived in the capital – West London to be precise. They’ll be available to the good people of Ealing from Wednesday 30 April with other boroughs hoping to join soon. Here's what you need to know.
Whether you’re pedalling in South Acton or Perivale, we’re excited to provide two brand new models of e-bike:
The Explorer 4, which has a larger metal basket, and a softer saddle that’s easier to adjust, and
The Explorer Light 1, which is three-quarters of the weight of a standard e-bike models, designed for better accessibility
We’re looking forward to helping more people from all walks of life get around London, whether to jobs, education and everything else these boroughs offer.
In all cases when using our e-bikes, please check the app to see whether you can or can’t ride in a certain area.
How to park
It’s important to park responsibly - keeping pavements clear and open for all. Be neat, be tidy and do not obstruct roads, pavements or paths.
Where to park?
Check the Voi app to see where you can park. In some areas you have to park in mandatory spaces marked in blue on the map. In others, you can park where you need to.
Mandatory spaces are often marked with cycle parking stands or white lines drawn on the pavement or road. Often there will be a dedicated car-parking space for e-bikes and e-scooters on the road.
In other areas, you can park in any suitable location apart from the ‘no-parking’ and -no-riding’ zones, also marked on the Voi app – we call this ‘free-float parking.’
How to park: Bay, rack or kerb?
There are typically three types of parking spot in London: a marked bay, a cycle rack or on the kerbside.
1. In a marked bay
Park the bike on its stand at 90 degrees to the pavement in line with the next bike or scooter.
Get both wheels inside the bay. If you can’t, please find another spot nearby. This ensures as many as possible can fit into any car parking space.
Did you know we can fit nine Voi E-Bikes into the equivalent of just one car-parking space?
2. On cycle racks or stands
Park in line with the rack
Leave space for people who need to lock their bikes to the stand. If it’s too full, find another spot nearby
3. On the kerbside - park like a railing
Keep as much pavement space clear as possible - at least two metres.
Imagine the bike is like railings: face the wheels along the top of the kerb, keeping clear of any accessible dropped kerbs or pedestrian crossings
Tuck the bike behind a lamp post, tree or bin so as not to make the pavement any narrower
If you can’t leave at least 2 metres of pavement space, please park elsewhere
Take a photo you’d be proud of
We need to see the whole bike, where it's parked and its surroundings. That also means plenty of light or using the flash after dark. You may be charged a fee if your photos do not meet our requirements.
Avoid penalties for poor parking
Before charging fees, we always guide riders on how to park and only refer to fees in cases of repeated violations of parking requirements. While fines are issued after multiple warnings, if you believe a fine has been issued in error, please contact our support team at [email protected] or through the ‘Help’ section in the app, and we'll be happy to review your case. Repeat offenders may be banned.
