Birmingham and Coventry get ready to roll today, as Voi e-scooters hit the streets

Sep 10, 2020

You can leave your horse in the stable today, Lady Godiva. As of today, 10 September, budding scooter enthusiasts will be able to rent our e-scooters in both Birmingham and Coventry — our new West Midlands trial program kicks off in the two cities! We celebrate our arrival with events at Victoria Square in Birmingham and the Transport Museum in Coventry.

We think our launch in Coventry and Birmingham is happening at just the right time, too. Our scooters will provide the city’s residents and visitors with a new low-carbon transit mode at a time of increased adherence to social-distancing rule. With COVID cases still prevalent in the U.K., e-scooters will help take the pressure off Birmingham and Coventry’s public transport, and enable people to access work and shops without having to resort to their car or worry about overcrowded trains or buses. With so many environmental and public health benefits, we’re paving the way for e-scooters to become a key in-city transport solution.

Safety always comes first, and Voi’s e-scooters will be cleaned and disinfected regularly to ensure that they cannot become sources of infection. We’ve added copper tape to the scooter handlebars, which kill 99.98% of coronavirus on contact. Our safety operations exceed Government requirements, with in-person and online rider education — such as our Ride Like Voila online traffic school. Our latest e-scooter model, featuring indicators, will be introduced in the coming months.

And more good news? Voi expects to create more than 120 jobs across the West Midlands region and will be working alongside Transport for West Midlands to integrate fully with local bus and train operators.

To learn more about how to get started on your Voiage, download our app. Scooters will be available to unlock for a £1 and will cost £0.20 per minute. A variety of passes and discounts are available to ensure that the e-scooters are accessible by all, including discounts for key workers who need to access hospitals, schools and the city centre in their roles. Enjoy the ride, Coventry and Birmingham!
