Voi reports extortion attempt to Swedish police

Voi confirms that it has received threats seeking to extort money and making threats of violence to its CEO.

The blackmailer states to have in their possession a range of customer information. They are claiming that this criminal activity is done at the direction of one of our competitors as we enter a critical stage for the business in public tenders.

We do not believe that the blackmailer has accessed any sensitive information, such as credit card details or passwords, however we do believe the perpetrator has obtained access to email addresses. We do not believe any information has been publicly disclosed. According to our ongoing investigation, approximately 0.1% of our customer base may have been affected.

We treat this seriously and have reported it to the Swedish police and followed our internal information security procedures and have notified the Swedish Authority For Privacy Protection.

At Voi we have a policy of not negotiating with criminals and will not respond to blackmail.

This is now an ongoing investigation and we will update when further information becomes available. We believe only a very limited number of users may have been affected. Once the risk to them has been assessed we will be in touch with those concerned in due course.
