Voi shortlisted for CIHT’s Climate Change Award for supporting net-zero transport

In a year marked by the green recovery agenda and the road to COP26 the 2021 CIHT Climate Change Award is taking centre stage. Voi, the largest e-scooter operator in the UK, has been shortlisted for the key role it plays in supporting inclusive net-zero transport as we build back better.

The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) is the leading voice of the highways and transportation infrastructure profession. They are a key source of technical expertise for national and local government and stakeholders guiding future policy and investment. One of their objectives is to work with stakeholders to support efficient transport so that they are safe, sustainable, effective and able to meet the changing needs of society.

Voi nominated for the Climate Change Award

To support this mission, the CIHT hosts awards each year covering 11 categories, ranging from collaboration, engineering, transport planning and employer of the year. We are thrilled that Voi has been shortlisted for the Ringway Climate Change Award, which recognises projects, schemes, products or strategies that demonstrate a contribution to mitigating climate change.

This year’s Climate Change award takes special proportion as we focus on the green recovery, building our economy, cities and transport systems back better, greener and healthier. Net-zero transport will be a key theme at COP26, as transport, especially private cars, continue to drive a large part of city emissions.

The applicants are evaluated based on various criteria, including the use of innovation, stakeholder engagement and demonstrable benefits to society. Voi was shortlisted for its e-scooters trials spanning across the UK, which are helping accelerate the transition to net-zero transport and support the green recovery.

Today, Voi provides 18 cities including Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol and Northampton with net-zero micromobility. When the Department for Transport fast-tracked the legalisation of shared e-scooters to provide sustainable alternatives to cars while enabling social distancing, Voi committed to delivering bespoke services that meet the needs of each city. Together with these communities and cities, we are championing a transition in how we move and design our cities: for people and for the planet, not only for cars.

Through strong collaboration with local authorities, communities and stakeholders, we believe we can nudge more sustainable mobility behaviour and accelerate the transition towards net-zero transport. E-scooters and e-bikes can play a key role in the UK’s journey towards net-zero.
