Voi releases its first Sustainability Report with reference to the GRI Standards

Dec 12, 2023

Over the years, Voi has consistently published various reports to uphold transparency regarding safety and environmental sustainability. In a continued effort to enhance the company’s sustainability reporting, Voi now shares its first Sustainability Report covering environmental, social and governance topics.

Voi was founded with a vision of cities made for living, supported by our mission to enable access to safe, sustainable and reliable micromobility for everyone.

“Our business strategy is inherently aligned with sustainable development. However, it is crucial that we operate responsibly. This Sustainability Report outlines our efforts to establish a fully environmentally and socially sustainable company and details the governance of our sustainability strategy”, says Fredrik Hjelm, CEO and co-founder of Voi Technology.

The report has been developed with reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards and aims to prepare Voi to comply with the EU Corporate Sustainable Reporting Directive.

“In just five years, Voi has evolved from a startup to a large company with over 900 employees, providing our mobility service across 12 countries. With growth comes responsibility, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our stakeholders receive regular and accurate updates on our sustainability performance“, says Fredrik Hjelm.

Strategy aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals

The report encompasses a comprehensive sustainability strategy building upon a double materiality assessment and other engagements with Voi’s key stakeholders. The strategy includes four overarching goals, comprising a total of 12 targets and 38 measurable sub-targets that Voi aspires to accomplish.

Among the targets set, a key one is to reduce the company-wide Scope 1-3 greenhouse gas emissions by 50 % by 2030, from a 2021 base year. This commitment is substantiated by a rigorous carbon accounting process conducted in collaboration with Emitwise, a carbon data management platform. The target is set to be achieved through initiatives such as further increasing vehicle lifespan, the circularity of our service, particularly repairs, electrification of operations, energy efficiency and other measures detailed in the report.

Moreover, the report includes disclosures and targets focused on enhancing safety, such as targets to reduce road accidents and prevent work-related incidents through systematic safety risk management. Additionally, Voi has established targets to increase the representation of women, both within the company and among our user base. Furthermore, there are targets in place to ensure a responsible integration with city infrastructure and the broader transport ecosystem.

Sustainability Governance

The sustainability strategy is implemented across the entire company, with sustainability being a fully integrated part of all business units, spanning from hardware and software development at the headquarters to day-to-day operations in the markets. Various roles and functions at the group level hold responsibilities for advancing sustainability-related activities.

To systemise sustainability efforts, Voi has implemented ISO-certified management systems for environmental sustainability, quality assurance, occupational health and safety, and data privacy and information security. Furthermore, Voi has established sustainability requirements for our suppliers through a Supplier Code of Conduct, which partnering companies are required to sign and adhere to.

The Sustainability Report has received approval from Voi’s Board of Directors, the ultimate governance body overseeing the sustainability strategy and objectives.
